Update, September 9, 4:37 pm-
The Great Falls Public School District held a press conference at 3:30 on September 9, 2020, to address the recent network outage that is impacting their email, internet, and software apps.
GFPS computer technicians and data center staff have been working around the clock with specialists to determine the cause and the extent of the outage.
Right now, there is no timeline for when the system will be back online. However, GFPS says many of the online and cloud base systems are still functional because it is outside of their network.
“Our remote learning teachers, many of them were working from home on their own networks and their own systems and were able to work with their students to some degree. So, I don’t think we were down a 100% on the remote learning side," said Tom Moore, GFPS Superintendent.
15% of students in the district are doing remote learning. Since the network is down GFPS says finding a way to communicate, besides email, is important for students and teachers.
GFPS is hoping the network will be back by the end of the week or early next week.
Tuesday morning Great Falls Public School District sent the following text message out to parents:
We are experiencing a severe district wide network outage that will impact remote learning.
As of 8:30 am, there is no word on what the exact issue is or when it will be fixed.
We will update this story when more information is available.
