Senate Bill Stirs Up Controversy with Missoula Food Bank

Across the country, letter carriers will be delivering up more than just mail this weekend.

Saturday marks the 23rd annual "Stamp Out Hunger" national food drive and participating is as easy as leaving non-perishables at the mail box.

Letter carriers will pick up the donations and deliver them directly to local food banks.

For the Flathead Food Bank it's a partnership that brings in thousands of pounds of food right as traditional donations dip.

”It slows down pretty drastically after the first of the year and with summer coming and everybody out doing all the fun stuff, there's still a lot of people hungry in our community who don't get to do the fun stuff and sometimes even go to bed hungry at night so it's really important that we don't forget about those people year round,” said Flathead Food Bank Executive Director Lori Botkin.

The Flathead Food Bank says right now they are most in need of macaroni and cheese and canned meats.

Even though it's a food drive, they would also appreciate personal hygiene items like shampoo and toothpaste.
