Man dies after being hit by train in Wolf Point

Two people are dead after a truck was hit by a BNSF train in Roosevelt County early Wednesday morning.

According to Montana Highway Patrol Trooper Mitch Willett, the crash occurred around 5 a.m. on the Fort Peck Indian Reservation 5-6 miles east of Wolf Point.

Willett says a truck containing two people was driving through a field when they crashed through a fence and ended up stuck on the railroad tracks. A

BNSF train heading south saw the truck on the tracks and activated emergency brakes, but were unable to stop in time. When the train collided with the truck, the vehicle was forced off the tracks and into a nearby ditch.

The truck flipped onto its side and "burned up."

Both occupants died, but an official cause of death and their identities have not yet been released.
